Finding Nutritious Fast Food

Just about any article you read about restoring your health or slimming down is going to tell you to ignore the drive through and cook all of your meals instead. This is actually very true. But sometimes the last thing you want to do is prepare a whole dinner for yourself and your family. Sometimes you just want to hit the drive through on the way home and call it a day. Why shouldn't you be able to do this from time to time and not have a bunch of guilt about slipping up on your diet? This may be possible because plenty of the popular fast food places are trying to make their menus healthier now. Here is how one can find healthy food at the drive through.

Go with the side dishes. Not that long ago, the only side dish item available at a fast food restaurant was French fries. Today almost all of the most popular fast food franchises have improved their products. Now lots of them offer you salads. You can also pick out Chili. You can also purchase a baked potato. You can choose fruit. There are so many selections that you can choose that do not force you to eat foods that have been deep fried. Instead of the pre-determined "meal deals" try to build a meal out of side dishes. This helps you keep your calorie count low and reduce your fat intake.

Your drink should be water or juice or milk. Choosing a large soft drink as your beverage adds hundreds of harmful calories to your meal. Usually a single helping of soda is only eight ounces big. Those eight ounces usually are at least 100 calories and close to ten tablespoons of sugar. A fast food soft drink is typically a minimum of twenty ounces. It is most often no less than 30 ounces. This means that your drink on it's own will put a multitude of ounces of sugar into your body as well as several thousand empty calories. Water, fruit juice and milk, conversely, are far better choices.

Choose your drive through according to if it has better options available. For example in the states, Arby's does not provide hamburgers. Instead, your choices include roast beef and chicken sandwiches, wraps and big salads. Wendy's, not surprisingly, is known for its square burgers, but the menu there has a considerable amount of healthy choices like salad, potatoes and chili. Most fast food dining places do not stoop to the poor lows seen at some outlets.

Standard logic tells us that one sure way to get healthy and lose fat is to skip the drive through and to remove fast food restaurants from your thoughts. While this is usually a good idea all you need to do is make a number of good choices and going to the drive through isn't anything to worry about–when you do it in moderation. Sometimes what you require most is just to have someone else do the cooking. There isn't any reason to feel guilty about visiting the drive through when you make healthy decisions!
